Our goal is to protect all law enforcement officers so we don't have to read about them here!

Our Story

Operation Safe Shield is working to prevent officers from being shot while in their patrol cars. Too many officers are being ambushed while on duty. Our equipment will give them a level of protection that has not been seen before.

Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Chad Walker, 38, was stopping to assist a driver near Mexia, Texas, around 7:45 p.m. Friday, March 26, 2021 when he was shot multiple times through his windshield. He died from his fatal wounds on March 31, 2021. 

Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Juan Tovar, was shot in the eye while trying to apprehend a shooting suspect on April 8, 2021 after the suspect opened fire at Kent Moore Cabinets, killing one person and injuring five others, including Tovar. The shooting occured one day after Tovar attended the funeral for his fellow Trooper Chad Walker.

 Lieutenant Milton Resendez was shot and killed during a police pursuit in San Benito, Texas on October 17, 2023. Subjects fired at his patrol vehicle with one bullet hitting the front of his vehicle, and the second striking the driver's side door. The second bullet pierced Lieutenant Resendez in the abdomen below his vest. He was transported to Valley Baptist Hospital where he succumbed to his wounds.

Houston Police Department sergeant Mauricio Valle, 38,  was shot multiple times in southwest Houston early Saturday, December 2, 2024 by a suspect accused of multiple burglaries. The suspect approached the sergeant's patrol car from the passenger side window and opened fire in what was called an "ambush-style attack." The sergeant was hit multiple times in the arms and legs, and once in his ballistic vest, but was able to return fire, shooting the suspect multiple times. 

A Dallas police officer was shot on Wednesday March 13, 2024. 

The Officer spotted a camaro driving erratically and took off after that vehicle. Police said the driver of the Camaro fired five rounds at the unmarked vehicle, hitting it twice. One of the rounds went into the driver’s door striking the officer in the hip. 

San Antonio Police Officer Robert Deckard volunteered for the shift during which he was shot on December 8, 2013. Normally stationed on the North Side, he was covering the South Side early Sunday when he spotted two suspects in a string of armed robberies.

A chase ensued across county lines. The suspects fired at Deckard, hitting him through his windshield and causing a crash. He spent 13 days in the intensive care unit at San Antonio Military Medical Center with a bullet lodged in his brain before he was pronounced dead at 9:53 a.m. Friday, December 20, 2013.

The San Antonio Police Department announced that two officers were shot during a standoff on August 24, 2023 while trying to apprenhend a wanted felon. The officers were identified as Rhett Shoquist and Raul Chavez. Both officers were shot while in their patrol vehicle. Shoquist was shot in the face, losing an eye and Chavez was shot multiple times in the torso area. Both officers recovered.

On July 10, 2024, Harris County Deputy Fernando Esqueda (28) was undercover, trailing a man accused of pistol-whipping a Little Caesars pizza employee because they got the order wrong. Investigators believed the suspect, 44-year-old Ronnie Palmer, began firing a gun into the car Deputy Esqueda was driving. He was rushed to LBJ Hospital in a private vehicle, but he died shortly after.

Harris County deputy constable, Maher Husseini, was killed on his way to work on Tuesday afternoon, Sept 3, 2024,  when a man walked up to his car at an intersection, shot the deputy multiple times through his closed side window then proceeded to the opposite side of the vehicle and shot several more times through the other closed window. 

Brazos County Sheriff’s Deputy Sergeant Brittany Re suffered a gunshot wound to her left shoulder and serious injury to her left eye from shrapnel caused by gunfire during a traffic stop on December 29, 2023. Re located a stolen vehicle that had been involved in a shooting with the Bryan Police Department on the previous day and initiated a traffic stop but the vehicle did not stop and a pursuit began. It was during the pursuit, that the driver started to shoot out of his vehicle toward Re. The driver finally came to a complete stop and shot Re while in her vehicle.

On Nov. 16, 2023, Oconee County (South Carolina) Corporal Lucas Watts was shot in the head while trying to pull over a suspect’s vehicle. He was shot through the windshield of his patrol vehicle. Despite the odds, Watts survived his ordeal. A couple weeks later, the Oconee County Commissioner’s court approved funding to equip the county patrol vehicles with bullet resistant glass after seeing a live fire demonstration hosted by Dana Safety with Operation Safe Shield.

Bryan Police Officer Joel Bravo was shot on Dec. 22, 2017 after responding to a robbery call.  The suspect stepped in front of Bravo's car and opened fire through his windshield. Bravo was hit in the chest by the bullet. Thankfully, he was wearing an armored vest. It's something he usually doesn't think much about. 

Hill County constable Kevin Cordell was shot during a pursuit of two men on May 13, 2021. The Dallas Police Department said its fugitive unit was focused on arresting two wanted felony suspects when they were located in Ellis County. During the chase, the suspects fired shots and struck Hill County Constable Kevin Cordell in his vehicle.
